Chilli sauces are another amazing food group that needs consuming and then rating on the internet.
Given they are not the focus of this blog, I will put them all on this one convenient page. Enjoy!
Sauce: Flavours of the World - West Indies Cayenne (150ml)
Price: unknown
Heat rating: unknown (guessing 2)
Review: Part of a 4 pack given to me as a gift, the first sauce is a green chilli blend that is quite mild and tangy. The box describes it as "a green chilli sauce made with green tomato and green cayenne chilli". A nice one to put with bacon and eggs, or anything that needs a nice relish but lower heat levels.
Sauce: Flavours of the World - Mexican Sauce (150ml)
Price: unknown
Heat rating: unknown (guessing 4-5)
Review: Smokey flavour with a nice medium heat. Perfect for adding in chilli con carne, or BBQ style dishes.
Has some nice hints of caramelised onion and a rich brown colour. Nice sauce to keep on standby.
Sauce: Flavours of the World - African Piri Piri Sauce (150ml)
Price: unknown
Heat rating: unknown (guessing 4-5)
Review: A slightly sweet smell, but with that classic piri piri chilli taste. Similar to the sauces offered by Nandos, but perhaps not as refined.
Sauce: Flavours of the World - Jamaican Habenero (150ml)
Price: unknown
Heat rating: unknown (guessing 8)
Review: Quite powerful on the nose, and has some real heat to it when tasting on its own. The heat lasts for quite a while and is just short of being overpowering.
Sauce: Sauce Bitch (148ml)
Price: $10.00
Heat rating: 6
Review: This is my first dabble from the fantastic shopping experience that is Chile Mojo!
Beyond the funny bottle and name, this is an amazing fruity sauce, with hints of fruit peel and mango balancing out the medium style heat.
This is a good lighter style sauce that you could use in place of chutney.
Sauce: Cholula Hot Sauce (60ml)
Price: $2.50
Heat rating: unknown (guessing 5)
Review: Very watery texture with an orange-red colour.
Sauce: Nazirs Fiery Hot Chilli Sauce (59ml)
Price: $2.00
Heat rating: unknown
Review: Another very watery with a light red colour. There is a very distinct vinegar smell, with most likely cayenne style chillies giving a good bite.
It kicks relatively well to start with, but tapers off reasonably quickly. On a plate of food you really need to glug it on to get the real effects, so even though it is budget priced, if you use it regularly you will be going through a few bottles.
Sauce: Franks Red Hot Original (148ml)
Price: $5.00
Heat rating: unknown (guessing 6)
Review: The original Franks. Well I had to give this one a go with some Buffalo Wings and blue cheese! The only thing missing was the superbowl. Perhaps next year.
As for flavour, it is a typical cayenne style sauce with a very strong vinegar kick. Mixed with the butter, it takes a fair amount of the vinegar edge off.
Quite a pleasant chilli sauce, but not once I would buy regularly as an all-purpose condiment.
Sauce: Lingham's Sriracha Extra Hot (250ml)
Price: $2.20
Heat rating: unknown (guessing 5-6)
Review: This has now become my staple chilli sauce. The rich, almost paste like sauce, hits you with a very powerful garlic smell. The taste has a good heat, with a real savoury spice to it.
Perfect on Asian style foods, which given it's made in Malaysia, doesn't surprise me! The price is rock bottom which helps as well.
